5.4.7 Arts Center
The 5.4.7 Arts Center is a non-profit community arts center dedicated to provide opportunities in the arts through classes, exhibits and performances. Our name comes from the date of the tornado that devastated Greensburg May 4, 2007. This date has been a catalyst for new beginnings in Greensburg and we want to remember this day that has forever changed us.
The Building
Studio 804, 3rd year graduate students in Architecture at the University of Kansas, designed and built the 5.4.7 facility. This building is a LEED platinum building and the first in the state of Kansas. Through the use of many sustainable features such as solar panels and a green roof, this building is very unique and is an exciting addition to the Greensburg landscape. The modern architecture of this facility is an exciting space for the arts to be made available to our community. The building itself is a work of art and also is a teaching tool for residents and visitors to learn about green building practices. The 5.4.7 is located in the heart of Greensburg, next to the Big Well Museum and park, one block from downtown, and one block from the Starlight Public Art Park.
