Join us on Sunday, April 6th, from 2-4 pm for the opening of artist @jenbaffoe showcase of oil paintings at the 5.4.7 Arts Center.

Artist Jennifer Baffoe, originally from South Dakota, began her art journey in November of 2008 while on maternity leave. Jennifer’s collection of oils and brushes given to her by her mother andgrandmother made it possible to get started! Jennifer began experimenting with the Alla Prima style using her skills painting landscape and animal portraits for clientele in the Midwest.

A massage therapist, mother, and wife, Jennifer always finds art tugging at her spirit. She decided in order to feel at peace, painting had to be an everyday part of life. When she was living in Washington State, Jennifer gained a great deal of insight by pushing herself to increase her abilities while regularly painting alongside other artists. Now, in Kansas she uses her love of nature and inspiration from her travels around the world to add bits of her life story to each painting.
Jennifer has her artwork in private collections across the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest. She currently shows her works in Southwestern Kansas. She has won 2 People’s Choice Awards at the Vancouver Art Gallery and was in the 2024 “Top Ten” for the Banner Art Project in Garden City, Kansas.

Jennifer aspires to have her work move the hearts of people around the globe.

"Capturing Light - Interpreting values and shapes"
Comprehensive 3-day workshop for pastel and oil painters.

July 18 - July 20, 2025
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Class fee is $425 and in person only. Lunch is included each day.

This workshop is designed to help you see your subjects in a new light, and paint with minimal strokes in refining shapes and edges with oils and pastels. An important feature of this workshop is I work with participants individually to critique and offer new directions in completing their paintings. Critiques include designing compositions, highlighting problem areas, correcting values, and simplifying important shapes during the process of painting. Lastly, this workshop is designed to loosen your paint strokes and avoid excessive detail in creating a more unique piece of art. The workshop will include a digital slide presentation of my pastel and oil paintings that includes step-by-step images of paintings in progress. My morning lectures will highlight a variety of topics including composition, painting techniques, self-critiquing, framing, and photographing people for painting reference. I will provide daily pastel demonstrations.

Our Mission: Providing opportunities in the arts to our area through classes, exhibitions, performances, and more.

Specific Need: In the rebuilding process following the Greensburg tornado in 2007, the 5.4.7 Arts Center was one of the first buildings to be completed and has been used extensively the past sixteen years. The Arts Center was designed and built by KU students in the Masters architecture program and was the first LEED Platinum sustainable building in the State of Kansas and the only one in the world built entirely by students. The 5.4.7 Arts Center Board of Directors has worked hard to maintain the building, but we have reached a juncture that major preservation and repairs to the exterior wood siding and doors is imperative.

The repairs will require the removal of the large glass panels that surround the building in order to perform the sanding and preservation of the siding and then re-install the glass after preservation is completed. The green glass that surrounds the building is one of the facets that makes the 5.4.7 Arts Center such a unique building. This is a labor-intensive endeavor that will require a skilled construction team.

With the help of South Central Community Foundation, the Patterson Family Foundation and your support, we will be able to repair and preserve the building, allowing us to continue serving Kiowa County for generations to come.

As the @547artscenter reflects on an incredible watercolor workshop with international artist Eudes Correia, we would like to take a moment to thank those who made it possible and a great experience.
Thank you to our instructor @eudeswatercolor for coming back to rural Kansas to provide an incredible opportunity for artists. Our resume of past artists is continuing to grow in an unimaginable way for Greensburg, Kansas.
Thank you to our students who created a wonderful environment to paint and spend time in fellowship. We were blessed with five students from Oklahoma, one from Iowa, one from Hays, another from Kinsley, and four local artists.

Thank you to Kooks Meat for catering three out of four days of lunches plus making a spectacular charcuterie board for us to enjoy Saturday afternoon.

Thank you to Reggie’s for delicious pizza for lunch on Sunday. Supporting local is one of our top priorities!

And finally thank you to @visitgreensburgks and the tourism board for awarding us funds towards the workshop. We are grateful to have such support for the arts in Kiowa County.
