Youth Theatre Workshops, June 12th

Youth Theater Workshops

Friday, June 12, at the 547 Arts Center

$10 per child (scholarships available) – all proceeds go toward the 547 Arts Center, limited to 15 students per session

Taught by Janeve West, Assistant Professor of Theatre at Monmouth College, IL, and assisted by Kim McMurry, GHS Drama & Forensics Instructor, and Janet West, former Pratt HS Forensics & Debate Instructor.

9 a.m.-Noon – “Taking the Stage!”, 1st through 3rd graders:  storybuilding, theater games, costume design, character creation, and more in an exploration of folk tales from around the world.  Informal sharing time with family and friends at 11:30 a.m.  Don’t forget your camera!

1-4 p.m. – “Stage Two!”, 4th through 7th graders: character creation, storybuilding, stage movement, theater games.  Students will put their newfound skills to use on excerpts from Holes, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and The Wizard of Oz.  The afternoon will end in an informal presentation of the students’ work for parents and friends at 3:30 p.m.

6-7:30 p.m. – “Center Stage!”, 8th through 12th graders:  Inspired by the comedy of Saturday Night Live, the Second City Improv, and “Who’s Line is It Anyway?”, this evening workshop will stretch the students’ improvisational skills.  They will participate in skillbuilding improvisational games, and the evening will end with students creating their own “sketch” comedy.

Contact Kim McMurry at 620-546-3265 to register or for more information!
